What is a safety certificate ?

A Safety Certificate (or Safety Standards Certificate) is an official document confirming that a vehicle meets the minimum safety standards required by the Ministry of Transportation.

When do I need a safety certificate?

You need a Safety Certificate if you are:

  • Selling or transferring ownership of a used vehicle
  • Registering a rebuilt vehicle
  • Re-registering a vehicle after it has been unplated for a certain time
  • Importing a vehicle into the province
What's included in a safety inspection?
